Leah Ward Sears
Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice
Leah Ward Sears is no stranger to being first. In 1992, Georgia Governor Zell Miller appointed Sears -- the first woman and youngest person ever to serve as a superior court judge in Fulton County -- to the state Supreme Court.
In 2005, Sears became the first woman to serve as Georgia's chief justice. An expert in family law, Sears retired from the bench in 2009 and is now using that expertise in private practice in Atlanta.
In 2010, she was elected to Emory's Board of Trustees.
