Francis A. "Frank" Manley
Poet; Novelist; Playwright
Francis A. "Frank" Manley wrote more than a dozen plays, novels, and books of poetry, earning several awards along the way -- including two Georgia Author of the Year prizes.
As an Emory faculty member from 1964 to 2000, he founded the creative writing program and cofounded the Playwriting Center of Theater Emory, which premiered several of his works. Manley displayed remarkable versatility: he taught Renaissance literature to Emory students and wrote poems about Roman emperors and novels about Southern cockfighting.
Following his passing in 2009, a memorial service at Cannon Chapel honored Manley with a staged reading from his play The Evidence.
